    Saturday 14 June 2008

    5-a-side Football Competition - 1.00pm, Broxburn Sports Centre (outdoor synthetic pitches).  Russell Malcolm Trophy (18yrs & over).  Organised by James Chapman.

    Result:

    Winner - Farcelona;  Runner-up - Kirkhill True Blues.

    Bonny Baby Competition - 1pm, Strathbrock community centre (Up to 24 months - Broxburn babies only).  There are two categories:  up to 12 mths (born between 14/06/07 & 14/06/08), and 1yr - 2yrs (born between 14/06/06 & 13/06/07).

    Results:

    Up to 12 months - 1st Lilly Daly,  2nd Darcey Brogan,  3rd Liam Hunt.

    1yr - 2yrs - 1st Megan Craik,  2nd Ellie Dunn,  3rd Mayson Flight.

    Pre-school Fancy Dress Contest - 2pm, Strathbrock community centre (2yrs - 5yrs if not at primary school - Broxburn children only).  There is just the one category.

    Result:

    1st Michael Barton,  2nd Jude Robertson,  3rd Thalia MacMillan.

    Both competitions judged by Liz & John Gemmell.  Bonny Baby Competition sponsored by Waz, Broxburn.

    Monday 16 June

    16 yrs & under Fishing Competition - 5.30pm , Eliburn Reservoir.       

    Junior Pet Show - 7pm, Strathbrock community centre (16yrs & under - Broxburn youngsters only).  Categories: cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and others (at 7pm) & dogs (at 8.00pm). 

    Results:

    Cats - 1st 'Rocky' (Kieren Thomson),  2nd 'Tootsie' (Beth Shaw),  3rd 'Panda' (Hannah Gilchrist).

    Rabbits - 1st 'Floppy' (Darcey Britton),  2nd 'Peter' (Sarah Devlin).

    Others - 1st 'Sid the Snake' (Ann Struthers).

    Dogs - 1st 'Charlie' (Rachel Meechan),  2nd 'Dexter' (Jordan McGuire),  3rd 'Misty' (Ryan White).

    Judged by Gillian & Shona of Albyn Veterinary Centre, Broxburn. 

    Sponsored by Trophy Pet Foods.

     

    Tuesday 17 June

    Boys and Girls 5-a-side Football (1)  - 6.30pm, Stewartfield park.  There are two categories:  Primary 4&5, and Primary 6&7.  Organised by Broxburn Athletic Colts FC.

    Results:

    Primary 4&5 - Winner: Broxburn Daggers,  Runner-up: Scotland Boys.

    Primary 6&7 - Winner: Phenomenals,  Runner-up: Cheeky Boys.

    Girls - Winner: Uphall Angels,  Runner-up: Broxy Girls.

    Union Canal Boat Trip on the Bluebell (1) - 7pm, Port Buchan to Winchburgh.

    Wednesday 18 June

    Children's Talent Show - 7.30pm, Strathbrock community centre (5 yrs to 16yrs - Broxburn youngsters only).  There are three categories:  5yrs - 8yrs,  9yrs - 12yrs, and 13yrs - 16yrs.

    Results:

    5yrs - 8yrs - 1st Jordyn McGuire,  2nd Charlotte Buckley & Lorna Salvini,  3rd Chelsea McEwan.

    9yrs - 12 yrs - 1st Amy Baillie,  2nd Matty,  3rd Primary School Musical (Alanah, Courtney, Mia & Shannon).

    13yrs - 16yrs - 1st Alisha, Danielle & Nicole,  2nd Rumour Has It (Allanah & Emma).

    Judged by Chris McNulty & Stewart Wilson.

    Model Boats - 6.30pm, Port Buchan (Edinburgh Model Boat Club will bring along their super model boats).                                                    

    Thursday 19 June

    OAP Whist Drive - 1.30pm, Old Town Centre.

    Results:

    1st lady - C. Boyle,  2nd lady - A. White,  consolation - J. Noble.

    1st gent - V. Marshall,  2nd gent - J. Ball/H. Little,  consolation - B. Walden.

    Boys and Girls 5-a-side Football (2)  - 6.30pm, Stewartfield park.  There are three categories:  Secondary 1&2, Secondary 3&4, and Secondary 5&6.  Organised by Broxburn Athletic Colts FC.

    Result:

    Secondary 2 - Winner: Euroscots,  Runner-up: Brox Academy Boys. 

    Union Canal Boat Trip on the Bluebell (2) - 7pm, Port Buchan to the aqueduct over the River Almond at Linn's Mill.

    Pool Competition - 7.00pm, The Club, Greendykes Road.  Straight knockout, 32 players or more, best of 3 games.

    Friday 20 June

    Family Barbeque - 7.30pm, Scout hall, Station Road (organised by Broxburn/Uphall scout group).

    Saturday 21 June - Gala Day

    Gala Day Parade - 12.00pm, departs from Wyndford Avenue.

    Official Opening and Gala Queen Crowning Ceremony - 1.00pm approx, Broxburn sports centre, Church Street.

    Best Decorated/Fancy Dress Results:

    Best decorated houses - 1st Pirie, 19 Badger Park,  2nd Jones, 55 Nicol Road, 3rd Stewart, 23 Holygate Place.

    Best decorated premises - 1st Broxburn Bargain Centre,  2nd Stewart's Opticians,  3rd Goschen Lounge.

    Best decorated floats (senior) - Sweet Guys.

    Best decorated floats (junior) - 1st Parkroad Pre-school Playgroup,  2nd Broxburn Primary Nursery.

    Best fancy dress - Jack Clark.

    Best decorated bicycle - Matthew Barton.

    Best decorated prams - 1st Joe Forbes,  2nd Steven French.

    Gala Field Events, Entertainment, etc - 2.00pm approx, Albyn Park, Greendykes Road.

    Race Results:

    Chisholm Trophy (girls) - Robyn Fleming,  Easton Trophy (boys) - Andrew McPherson,  Norman Pratt Trophy (girls) - Amy Cunningham,  Norman Pratt Trophy (boys) - Liam McConnachie,  McLaren Tropy (girls) - no entry,  G Morrison Cup (boys) - Andrew McPherson,  Regal Trophy (girls) - Amy Cunningham,  Crown Tavern Trophy (boys) - Liam McConnachie.  Overall Winner - Liam McConnachie.

    The Shows - afternoon, Stewartfield park, by canal (The Shows are not the responsibility of the Broxburn Gala Week Committee).

    The Bridge 19-40 Canal Society will be running short (30 mins) boat trips on the Union Canal from the slipway at Stewartfield park (next to the shows) to Port Buchan and back all afternoon.

    During the week...

    Gala bag tickets £1 available from Paper Dreams, East Main Street, Corner Shop, Aitken Orr Drive, Waz's, Goschen Place and M&A Newsagents, Galmeilon. 

    Throughout the Gala Week, the Deliberate Mistake Competition will take place in local shops and businesses.

    1st Emma Turner,  2nd Louise Turner, 3rd Thomas Fogwill.  Best hand-written entry - Rachael O'Neill.
